DS3231 RTC + EEPROM



This module contains a battery-backed DS3231 real-time clock IC and a 24C32 EEPROM on a single module.

The DS3231 is a highly accurate real-time clock that continues to keep track of time in the absence of Vcc, drawing power from a rechargeable LIR2032 battery (not included) or a non-rechargeable CR2032 (not included). See cautions below when using a non-rechargeable battery.

The 24C32 EEPROM holds 4 kilobytes (32 kilobits) of data.

Both EEPROM and RTC are accessed through the I2C interface (SDA, SCL), and plenty of libraries for Arduino and other systems are available to interface this to your microcontroller.

The module has a battery-holder on board, a LIR2032 rechargeable coin cell battery is needed (not included).

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE BATTERY
The module contains a trickle-charge circuit for the LIR2032 rechargeable battery. If you are using this module with a non-rechargeable battery (CR2032 or similar), you MUST do ONE of the following:
  • Remove the diode
  • Remove the trickle-charge resistor
  • Cut the PCB trace between the resistor and diode
